2020 Static Hosting Benchmark

Seems like Netlify is still the best for static hosting, as per latest benchmark.

Current ranking, based on the benchmark:

  • Netlify
  • Digital Ocean CDN
  • Cloudflare Workers
  • Vercel
  • AWS S3
  • PLUMA
  • Stackpath
  • Firebase
  • Digital Ocean

That’s great, thanks for sharing, @mulyadi!

Unfortunately, they mention S3 + CloudFront, but haven’t tested it, only S3 alone. And mentioned that it needs Lambda functions to get it working. This isn’t quite right.

In my testing, CloudFront consistently outperforms Netlify (their Free tier, at least, they want $1,000 a month to be on a premium tier).

Re how Netlify’s CDN works, I think @frans can add a bit more info on their multi-CDN setup.

Suprised at CF Workers not outperforming Netlify.

Netlify remains the easiest static site deployment option (with decent performance) that I recommend to people getting started, with S3 + CloudFront for best performance.

Would love to see that article updated with CloudFront delivering the S3 site in case you’re in touch with the author at all.

Netlify is fast, based on some of my tests (still from Asia), it feels faster with Vercel.
